Digipak and Advert
I have decided that I will keep the inside of my digipak simple with the same background that is used on the front and back of my digipak for continuity. However I am going to use an image of our artist on the CD as I feel there should be more than just one image of her.
For my advertisement, I am going to use a long shot of our artist so consumers will be able to see the whole image. I am also going to incorporate the same theme of aurora borealis so it links to my digipak.

Magazine
Here is my final magazine advertisement. I have used the ideas from the other magazine advertisements that I have been looking and kept most of the information at the bottom than placing them in random places everywhere. I decided to add quotes and rating stars so it doesn't look as plain and it made it look more like a magazine advertisment. I have stuck to the colour scheme of using the colours PURPLE, GREEN and BLACK and I do think that it has worked very well and as you can see that the PURPLE texts are placed underneath a GREEN text always, There isn't any random PURPLE text lying around anywhere. I have decided to use a mid shot image of the artist instead of a close up, as I thought that it would work better in a magazine advert. The artists clothes are shown as well with gives the audience a sense of the artists fashion and style. I have also changed the background, relating it closely to the chosen colour scheme.
Magazine Mock Up
Here is the mock up of my Magazine advertisement. I liked the image that I have used and the text, however, I do think its rather plain, and I think I would prefer to change the background, so it goes with my initial colour scheme- The bright green is a bit too bright for me.
Magazine Adverts Examples
Here are some magazine adverts that I have been looking at. I really liked the Ellie Goulding magazine advert, because it is simple and most of the magazine advert consists of just her face. I also like Jessie J's, magazine advert simply because of the same reason. I think for my magazine advert I am going to use these ideas and place an image of my artist on the middle, and use less writing, keep it a little simple. I am not going to use any background of Aurora because I feel it has already been used too much on the digipak, however I am going to stick to the colour scheme and use the colours PURPLE, BLACK and GREEN.
Making the Digigpak 3
Here is the inside of the digipak. I decided to use the same background as i used on the on front cover to show the continuity, however i am not entirely happy with this especially the CD. I think the white clashes with the background.
Here is how i changed the inside of my digipak. I changed the cd to black to it blends in with the rest of the digipak. Using the purple and green, chosen from the colour scheme on the CD also made it look affective as it also blended in very well. I have decided to add a snippet of the spectrum lyrics, as a quote from the Florence and the machine (which i noticed i still need to add). I like the simplicity on the inside of the digipak.
CD Disks
Here are some of the CD disks I like and I think are successful.

Katy Perry's CD disk

Analysis Of Magazine Advert
This advert is published on an A4 page, a typical magazine size. Taking up a whole page which will grab the audiences attention. Also the fancy font is typical for Gwen Stefani's quirky personality and as it its gold it gives off a royal theme and fancy lifestyle. The advert also includes track songs from her album, this allows the audience to recognise the hits and persue their interest in her advert and what she is trying to sell.
Gwen Stefani's official website page is included is also included in the advertisement. This is useful as fans might not know she even has her own page and can also include other merchandise that consumers may be interested in. It also has her album cover on the bottom right of the advert to show her audience what they should look for should they want to purchase it, or notice its Gwen when they see it in stores.
She is also attracting the audience by looking directly at the camera she is focusing directly on them. This makes the audience have a personal connection with the artist.
As Gwen is located in the middle of the advert she dominates the page and by being slouched upon her thrown gives her attitude and a carefree image. Also having bright blonde curly hair and dark red lipstick echoes her wild character. You can imagine this to reflect in the lyrics on the album.
As she is holding a crown to echo the royal theme with the gold writing, and grasping a scepter on her other hand shows wealth and power in her image and also her position in the music industry.'
Making the Digipak FINAL
This is my final draft of my Digipak I made for our artist. I stretched out my design picture for the background so it covered both front and back. I chose this font as its different and stands out and resembles the image of a sort of psychedelic theme. I decided to change the image on the front as I wanted a better close up and it was tricky to edit the other image on photoshop with the artist' hair.

CD Designs
Here are some CD designs I have been looking at. These are all different, some of them consist of the artists image and some of them don't. I like the simple design such as the Lana Del Rey one- The one with the red roses, this is because of the simplicity it makes look appealing. However as the inside my digipak isn't going to have the artist image, I think for my CD I should use a image. I like Nicole Scherzinger image on her CD because it's on the side however, I also like NeYo's CD design, the close up image of him. Overall, I think I am going to use both of the ideas and put it to one. Using a close up image of the artist and placing it on one side of the CD so it is not covering it all.

Why Advertise In Magazines?
Why is it a good idea to advertise in magazines?
- Readers become deeply engaged with their magazines. As a result a strong relationship grows between the reader and his or her chosen magazines. Reading a magazine is like talking to a friend.
- Readers give commitment to their magazines. They read their magazine throughly and often. Copies are often read repeatedly. More than 90% percent of the pages are opened by the typical reader. The average page in a payed for magazine is looked at twice by each reader.
- Advertising is seen as an integral part of magazine. Relevant advertising is valued by readers, and is consumed with interest. Readers screen advertisements with the same interest they screen other relevant things in the magazine
- UK consumers will spend £2.5bn on magazines this year.
Magazines are loved by the youth
- 14- 24 year olds are the most likey to read magazines
- They read 24% more titles than the average British adult
Magazines meet and understand consumers needs
- They are kept and referred to
- They are viewed as long term companions
Magazines drive word of mouth
- Magazines and Television are the most effective media in driving word of mouth
- They outform Newspapers, radio and the internet.
Advertisement Examples
I look at different examples of a CD advertisement and I decided I wanted to make a CD advertisement you would find walking around the London Underground!

Analysis of three Digipaks
In Media we looked at the use of digipaks and whether they are effective today as the percentage of consumers purchasing music from iTunes and Amazon are higher. A digipak is a modern approach to CD/DVD packaging, usually made of thick cardboard and it allows the possibility of including a lot more information on the band/artist.
A digipak could include these following things :
I analysed two digipaks...
1. Rihanna 'Loud'
There is a close up shot on Rihanna looking down with a feminine pose. The artist doesn't reveal her face or her body which shows that she is already a well established artist in the industry which a huge fanbase. Fans will already know who she is therefore buying her album. The colour red is used throughout the digipak as Rihanna's hair, lips and the use of roses are all red. This fits with the overall style of the digipak. The design on the CD's is very simple yet effective and goes along with the theme of roses. There is a sense of femininity with the artwork. The cover is simple yet it goes with the name of the album as the colour red is 'loud'.
2. Florence + The Machine 'Lungs'
The album cover is simple with an image of Florence and an emphasis on the lungs as it is the name of the album. I also like the simplicity of the CD design and will also use this for inspiration when I create my CD design. The back cover of the album is simple yet effective. They all link together using the colour black and the fonts used for the album name and tracklist.
A digipak could include these following things :
- Name of the artist/band
- Name of the album
- Track listings for the album
- Production information, including copyright and company details

Making the Digipak 2
First Digipak cover |
I also added the barcode on the bottom right corner the copyright information and the record company and the artists website. To get the information I looked at other Island Records artist such as Rihanna and re wrote it.
Analysis Of Digipaks
Loud is the fifth album Rihanna has brought out, therefore she is already a known artist and people will know her type of music and will already have a strong fan base. However, I still think its obvious to tell that this album will include pop related music.
Rihanna has bright bold Red hair and dark Red lipstick on, this shows her vibrant and quriky personality which Rihanna has a representation to be. Her fiery hair colour makes her stand out from other artists and has even set a fashion trend with her fans by copying her 'Rihanna Red hair'.
As its a close up of Rihanna with her eyes shut, and a theme of Red, it gives the audience a sense of passion as well as the Red roses which contrasts with the name of the Album 'Loud'. This gives an impression to the audience that she is affectionate about the music she is portraying on the album.
The CD has a image of a light Pink Rose, contrasting with the bright Red Roses that she is laying in. This therefore a sense of variety but also keeping femininity.
'Loud' made to be a great hit by selling 2 million copies worldwide in the first 5 weeks, making it Rihanna's fastest selling album at the time. However, she has now topped that with her new album 'Unapologetic'.
Rita Ora's album ORAis her debut album, therefore people still might be unfamiliar with who she is. As of this she has her name in big bold capital Gold font at the top of the cover which instantly grabs attention. The background is plain and white, this is because she doesn't want it to steal attention from her image or her name.
The artist is pulling a unusual expression and covering her eye with her hand. This gives an impression that she has quite a fun, bubbly personality which indicates its most likely to be pop music on the album like our own Artist, Eliza and the Crystals. Also, she is looking directly straight into the camera capturing attention and making it more personal.
The fact that Rita is wearing a watch can connote wealth and power, and she is also displaying a chain necklace which can also connote that she is now locked in to the music industry that she's in and has a passion for it.
Although this cover is in Black and White it is obvious that Rita is wearing lipstick and what looks like to have no clothes on trying to cover up creates sex appeal for her male fans, as well has having long wavy hair that shows passion and beauty for her female fans.
'Ora' went on to be successful debuting in the UK at No.1.

Potential Design Pictures For Album Cover
These are some of the potential pictures for the design of my digi-pack, going with the Aurora themed colours of Pink, Blue and Green. I think they would be successful as they are bold and stand out and reflect the meaning of 'SPECTRUM'. Also, as our target audience is young, mainly girls and quite fun, I think these pictures will be suitable as they are playful and vibrant.
I have decided to use this image as I like it best and it sort of has a bright, crystal feel to it therefore fits in well with the Artist' name Eliza And The Crystals.
