Evaluation Q4

To get a good general feedback on my video, I have asked a few people to watch and analysis what they think worked well and what they thought can be improved. For example, I asked Ellie, Rachel and Poppy who would be the ideal target audience we set and also my dad who obviously is a bit older than our set target audience. By doing this I have learnt a number of things that we could of improved. One of the main points which people said that could be amended that is, even our song is upbeat and fast, there could be less action and movement from the artist, however the main people who said this was above the age of our target audience. Another potential improvement which was mentioned was there could be more shot types, e.g more close ups which I agree on however, we managed to include a few which made the video which still made the video successful.

Analysis Of Magazine Advert

This advert is published on an A4 page, a typical magazine size. Taking up a whole page which will grab the audiences attention. Also the fancy font is typical for Gwen Stefani's quirky personality and as it its gold it gives off a royal theme and fancy lifestyle. The advert also includes track songs from her album, this allows the audience to recognise the hits and persue their interest in her advert and what she is trying to sell.

Gwen Stefani's official website page is included is also included in the advertisement. This is useful as fans might not know she even has her own page and can also include other merchandise that consumers may be interested in. It also has her album cover on the bottom right of the advert to show her audience what they should look for should they want to purchase it, or notice its Gwen when they see it in stores.

She is also attracting the audience by looking directly at the camera she is focusing directly on them. This makes the audience have a personal connection with the artist.

As Gwen is located in the middle of the advert she dominates the page and by being slouched upon her thrown gives her attitude and a carefree image. Also having bright blonde curly hair and dark red lipstick echoes her wild character.  You can imagine this to reflect in the lyrics on the album.

As she is holding a crown to echo the royal theme with the gold writing, and grasping a scepter  on her other hand shows wealth and power in her image and also her position in the music industry.'

Making the Digipak FINAL

This is my final draft of my Digipak I made for our artist. I stretched out my design picture for the background so it covered both front and back. I chose this font as its different and stands out and resembles the image of a sort of psychedelic theme. I decided to change the image on the front as  I wanted a better close up and it was tricky to edit the other image on photoshop with the artist' hair.

Why Advertise In Magazines?

Why is it a good idea to advertise in magazines?

  1. Readers become deeply engaged with their magazines. As a result a strong relationship grows between the reader and his or her chosen magazines. Reading a magazine is like talking to a friend.
  2. Readers give commitment to their magazines. They read their magazine throughly and often. Copies are often read repeatedly. More than 90% percent of the pages are opened by the typical reader. The average page in a payed for magazine is looked at twice by each reader.
  3. Advertising is seen as an integral part of magazine. Relevant advertising is valued by readers, and is consumed with interest. Readers screen advertisements with the same interest they screen other relevant things in the magazine
Magazines are thriving
  • UK consumers will spend £2.5bn on magazines this year.
Magazines are loved by the youth
  • 14- 24 year olds are the most likey to read magazines
  • They read 24% more titles than the average British adult
Magazines meet and understand consumers needs
  • They are kept and referred to
  • They are viewed as long term companions
Magazines drive word of mouth
  • Magazines and Television are the most effective media in driving word of mouth
  • They outform Newspapers, radio and the internet.

Analysis Of Digipaks

Loud is the fifth album Rihanna has brought out, therefore she is already a known artist and people will know her type of music and will already have a strong fan base. However, I still think its obvious to tell that this album will include pop related music.

Rihanna has bright bold Red hair and dark Red lipstick on, this shows her vibrant and quriky personality which Rihanna has a representation to be. Her fiery hair colour makes her stand out from other artists and has even set a fashion trend with her fans by copying her 'Rihanna Red hair'.

As its a close up of Rihanna with her eyes shut, and a theme of Red, it gives the audience a sense of passion as well as the Red roses which contrasts with the name of the Album 'Loud'. This gives an impression to the audience that she is affectionate about the music she is portraying on the album.

The CD has a image of a light Pink Rose, contrasting with the bright Red Roses that she is laying in. This therefore a sense of variety but also keeping femininity.

'Loud' made to be a great hit by selling 2 million copies worldwide in the first 5 weeks, making it Rihanna's fastest selling album at the time. However, she has now topped that with her new album 'Unapologetic'.

Rita Ora's album ORAis her debut album, therefore people still might be unfamiliar with who she is. As of this she has her name in big bold capital Gold font at the top of the cover which instantly grabs attention. The background is plain and white, this is because she doesn't want it to steal attention from her image or her name.

The artist is pulling a unusual expression and covering her eye with her hand. This gives an impression that she has quite a fun, bubbly personality which indicates its most likely to be pop music on the album like our own Artist, Eliza and the Crystals. Also, she is looking directly straight into the camera capturing attention and making it more personal.

The fact that Rita is wearing a watch can connote wealth and power, and she is also displaying a chain necklace which can also connote that she is now locked in to the music industry that she's in and has a passion for it.

Although this cover is in Black and White it is obvious that Rita is wearing lipstick and what looks like to have no clothes on trying to cover up creates sex appeal for  her male fans, as well has having long wavy hair that shows passion and beauty for her female fans.

'Ora' went on to be successful debuting in the UK at No.1.

Potential Design Pictures For Album Cover

These are some of the potential pictures for the design of my digi-pack, going with the Aurora themed colours of Pink, Blue and Green.  I think they would be successful as they are bold and stand out and reflect the meaning of 'SPECTRUM'. Also, as our target audience is young, mainly girls and quite fun, I think these pictures will be suitable as they are playful and vibrant.

I have decided to use this image as I like it best and it sort of has a bright, crystal feel to it therefore fits in well with the Artist' name Eliza And The Crystals.

Colour Scheme

As our single is called Spectrum meaning bright lights etc, as a group we came up with the name AURORA

Looking at these photos we decided our main colour scheme will be PURPLE/PINK, GREEN and BLUE to fit the album name.

As we have associated Rihanna to having things in common with our Artist, researching her videos we discovered that she had used Aurora lights successfully in her own latest music video Diamonds.

Album Cover Pics Of The Artist

These are some of the potential pictures of the artist we chose from. As some of us in the group wanted different shot types, being either a long shot or medium close up. Also some of us wanted the artist to be wearing a hat therefore we took a few snaps of that.

We decided we wanted to shot against the green background as we had already chosen what our colour scheme of the digi pack is going to be. As we came up with Aurora colours we thought that the green background might be easier to blend in when we have to edit it out on Photoshop.
